Dangerously Awake explores the uneasy relationship between beauty, choice, and consequence. The leopard moth carries a subtle nod to the modern metaphor of the “Leopards Eating People’s Faces Party”—the idea that we sometimes invite the leopard in believing its teeth are meant for someone else, only to discover that none of us are exempt. Foxglove holds a similar contradiction: strikingly beautiful and medicinal in careful hands, yet poisonous. At the center, the open eye is a reminder to pay attention—to look beyond what is appealing or familiar, question what we invite in, and remain awake to the consequences of our choices.

"Why is a Raven like a writing desk?” the Mad Hatter asked in Lewis Carrol’s Alice in Wonderland. I have always been stumped by the many possible answers to this riddle. They both have a similar alliteration? Because Poe wrote on both? Carroll later offered his own answer to this absurd riddle. “Because it can produce a few notes, though they are very flat; and it is nevar put with the wrong end in the front.” The misspelling of “nevar” backwards is “raven” you see.
